ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ  සම්භාව්‍ය  අධ්‍යාපන  සම්ප්‍රදාය  සුරකිමින් කාලීන අවශ්‍යතාවලට යෝග්‍ය ලෙස දැනුම, ආකල්ප හා කුසලතාවලින් පිරිපුන් පැවිදි ගිහි පුරවැසි පිරිසක් බිහිකිරීම

ථේරවාදී භික්ෂු සමාජයේ මනා පැවැත්මට උරදිය හැකි ධර්මධර හා විනයධර භික්ෂු පිරිසක් හා ශ්‍රී ලංකික අනන්‍යතාව ස්ව ලක්ෂණ කරගත් පෞරුෂයක් ඇති පුරවැසි පිරිසක් බිහි කරන ආයතන පද්ධතියක් ලෙස පිරිවෙන් අධ්‍යාපන ආයතන පවත්වාගෙන යාම සඳහා කාර්යය කටයුතු ඉටුකිරීම 

ශාඛාවේ කාර්යයන්

• 1979 අංක 64 දරණ පිරිවෙන් අධ්‍යාපන පනතේ පරමාර්ථ හා අරමුණු ඉටු කර ගැනීම, පනතට හා නියෝගවලට අනුකුල ව දිවයින පුරා පිරිවෙන් ආයතන අනුමත කිරීම, පිරිවේනාචාර්යවරුන් අනුමත කිරීම, පරිවේණාධිපති වැටුප් හා පිරිවෙන් පරීක්ෂණ සඳහා වාර්ෂික ආධාර මුදල් ගෙවීම, සම්පත් ලබාදීම, පුස්තකාල අනුමත කිරීම හා සංවර්ධනය, ආයතන වර්ග කිරීම, විෂය මාලා සංවර්ධනය, විෂය උපදේශනය, ගුරු පුහුණුව, ගුරුභවතුන්ගේ විශ්‍රාම අනුමත කිරීම, පිරිවෙන් ප්‍රත්‍යාදිෂ්ඨ කිරීම, ගුරුවරුන්ගේ සේවය අවසන් කිරීම ආදී අධ්‍යාපන පරිපාලන සංවර්ධන හා අධීක්ෂණ කටයුතු කිරීම
• පිරිවෙන් පනත යටතේ විධි විධාන අනුව සංවර්ධනය, පිරිවෙන් වර්ෂාවසාන විභාග ජාතික මට්ටමින් පැවැත්වීම, සීතාවක, වේනමුල්ල පිරිවෙන් අභ්‍යාස ආයතනවල පරිපාලන සංවර්ධනය හා අධීක්ෂණය, විද්‍යෝදය,  විද්‍යාලංකාර මහ පිරිවෙන්වලට අධාර මුදල් ගෙවීම, ගුරුවරුන් අනුමත කිරීම හා වැටුප් ගෙවීම ආදී කරුණු අදාළ නියමයන්ට අනුව ඉටු කිරීම
• පිරිවෙන් අධ්‍යාපන පනතට හා රෙගුලාසි මාලාව සංශෝධනය කිරීමට ඉදිරිපත් කිරීම
• අධ්‍යාපන ප්‍රතිපත්තිවලට අනුව ද්වීභාෂා අධ්‍යාපන කටයුතු සැලසුම් කොට ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීම
• අධ්‍යාපන ප්‍රකාශන දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සමඟ පිරිවෙන් පාඨ්‍ය ග්‍රන්ථ සම්පාදනයට සහාය වී පෙළපොත් පිරිවෙන්වලට බෙදා දීමට අවශ්‍ය මග පෙන්වීම් කිරීම
• පිරිවෙන් නිල ඇදුම් සැපයීමට අවශ්‍ය සහාය ලබාදීම
• පිරිවෙන් විභාග සම්බන්ධ ව විභාග දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සමඟ අදාළ කටයුතු කිරීම
• ජාතික අධ්‍යාපන ආයතනය සමඟ පිරිවෙන් විෂය නිර්දේශ, ගුරු පුහුණු ගුරු අත්පොත් ආදීය සම්බන්ධ ව ක්‍රියාකිරීම
• සම්භාෂා කලාපය ඇතුලු පිරිවෙන් ශාඛාවේ ප්‍රකාශන එළිදැක්වීම
• පිරිවෙන් සඳහා වාර්ෂික ඇස්තමේන්තු සැකසීම, වාර්ෂික වැඩ සැලැස්ම සැකසීම හා ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීම,  ජනාධිපති කාර්යාලය, ආගමික අමාත්‍යාංශය, ජාතික ඒකාබද්ධතා අමාත්‍යාංශය, සංස්කෘතික අමාත්‍යාංශය ආදී රාජ්‍ය ආයතන සමඟ පිරිවෙන් අධ්‍යාපනයට අදාළ  කටයුතු ඉටු කිරීම
• පිරිවෙන් සම්බන්ධ ව පැන නගින නීතිමය කටයුතු කිරීම
• පිරිවෙන් අධ්‍යාපන මණ්ඩලයේ කැඳවීම හා උපදෙස් යෝග්‍ය ලෙස ක්‍රියාත්මක කරවීම

Vision
While preserving the classic education tradition of Sri Lanka, to create a congregation of priest and lay citizens full of knowledge, attitudes and skills suitable for the contemporary requirements

Mission 
Execution of functions for maintaining the Pirivena education institutions as a system of creating a body of virtuous and disciplined priests who can support the wellbeing of Theravada monastic society and a body of citizens with the self-actualization of Sri Lankan identity

Functions of the branch

·         Performing the education administration and management duties such as the fulfillment of aims and objectives of the Pirivwna Education Act, No. 64, 1979, approving the Pirivenas island wide according to the regulations of the Act, approving the Pirivena teachers, payment of annual grants for the salaries of the heads of Pirivenas and the examinations of Pirivenas, providing resources, approving and developing libraries, categorizing the institutions, curriculum development, subject consultation, teacher training, approval of teachers’ pension and the termination of services of the teachers.

·         Executing the duties such as development in accordance with the provisions in the Pirivena Act, conducting year end examinations of Pirivenas at national level, administration development and monitoring the Pirivena training institutions at Seethawaka and Wenamulla, providing grants to Vidyodaya and Vidyalankara Maha Pirivenas, approving teachers and paying the salaries etc. according to the relevant regulations.

·         Submitting amendments to the series of regulations and the Pirivena Act.

·         Planning and implementing the bilingual education activities according to the education policies.

·         Assisting the Department of Educational Publications for the production of Pirivena text books and providing necessary guidance for the distribution of text books among Pirivenas.

·         Providing necessary assistance to deliver the Pirivena uniforms.

·         Performing relevant duties about the examinations of Pirivenas together with the Department of examinations.

·         Working in relation to Pirivena syllabuses and teacher training teachers’ guides etc. with the National Institute Education.

·         Launching of “Sambhasha” periodical and other publications of the Pirivena branch.

·         Formulating of annual estimates for Pirivenas, formulating and implementing the annual activity plan and executing the duties in relation to Pirivena education with the coordination of government institutions such as the Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, The Ministry of National Unity and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

·         Carry out the legal activities arising from the matters of Pirivenas.

·         Implementing suitably the instructions and summons of the Pirivena Education Board.
